New Orleans, La.
Trinity Christian Community, a stalwart rebuilding center and neighborhood revitalizer in Hollygrove, has partnered with evacuteer.org + the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) for the 2009 hurricane season. Founded in the 1970s and originally a cornerstone of the Irish Channel, Trinity Christian Community has gutted or rehabed over 2,000 homes in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina.
It is also one of the largest AmeriCorps sponsors in the state, utilizing 100 AmeriCorps volunteers with its partner agencies, most notably, Rebuilding Together New Orleans, Habitat for Humanity, and the Phoenix of New Orleans.
Trinity Christian Community will provide up to 50 evacuteers for the storm season 2009. “Our neighborhood means so much to us,” Executive Director Kevin Brown said. “We can’t imagine a more valuable thing to be a part of than to make sure our City is evacuated safely.”
