The non-profit Rebuilding Together has agreed to partner with evacuteer.org + the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) for Hurricane season 2009.
During normal days, Rebuilding Together rehabilitates the homes of elderly and disabled New Orleanians in five of the city’s historic neighborhoods. Rebuilding Together utilizes of a vibrant blend of energetic staff and ambitious AmeriCorps volunteers to serve its constituents.
In the advance of Hurricane Gustav, 40 Rebuilding Together members worked 12-hour shifts at the Union Passenger in the first ever assisted evacuation of the City.
Kristin Palmer, the executive director of Rebuilding Together New Orleans says she expects to provide close to or more than the amount of Rebuilding Together members in 2009 as she did in 2008. Another evacuteer.org + OEP partner, the Crisis Emergency Response Team will be providing free disaster management training to Rebuilding Together members this summer.
