On July 1st, evacuteer.org threw its inaugural momentum party at Le Phare, located in New Orleans’ Central Business District. The event increased awareness for the new organization’s efforts to recruit volunteers during mandatory city evacuations, and drew 70 individuals.
Lt. Col. Jerry Sneed, Director of the New Orleans Office of Emergency Preparedness, gave a spirited keynote address encouraging attendees to become involved. Evacuteer.org President Robert X. Fogarty thanked the partner groups on hand for the festivities, including Hands On New Orleans, City Year, Rebuilding Together, Trinity Christian Community, Puentes, and Catholic Charities.
To date, 243 evacuteers and 11 evacuteer.org partner groups have committed to training to become evacuteers among the 17 pick-up points, the Union Passenger Terminal, and the 311 Call Center.
Special thanks to Robert LeBlanc, owner of Le Phare, who generously provided the night’s venue.
