St. Bernard Project
Founded in 2006, the St. Bernard Project (SBP) is a nonprofit disaster rebuilding organization serving residents in St. Bernard and Orleans parishes. Embracing an all-under-one-roof model, SBP's mission is to remove physical, mental, and emotional barriers for vulnerable families, senior citizens and disabled residents who are struggling to recover from the devastation and trauma caused by Hurricane Katrina and, more recently, the oil spill.
SBP’s goals are to: 1) ensure that residents have humane, energy efficient and affordable housing; 2) ensure that uninsured and unemployed individuals are mentally healthy and well; and 3) create living wage jobs in the construction industry for veterans,
under-employed, and unemployed residents.
SBP is a partner organization of Evacuteer.org because we believe in its mission to implement a plan to get car-less citizens to safety in the event of a Hurricane. We believe that all the hard work, accomplishments and progress made over the past five years must also be met with preparedness and planning for future hurricanes. Evacuteer is helping our city learn from the past and prepare for a better future.
